Dinner, Dinner, Movies and Massages

The last week has been great – we’ve done a lot! We caught up with the other Australian Inpex guys for dinner one night and it was a really great night out. The food was amazing and SO cheap! Brent and Suzanne have a one year old, Stella and she’s is so adorable. She was such a good girl the whole time and didn’t mind when I stole a quick hug J

Wednesday was a public holiday here so Adrian and I went for a nice drive around the island. We planned to sightsee but the weather was not permitting so we took a few snaps of the mountains and then headed home. We don’t like to go out too long anyhow as we’re looking after Pip again and I don’t like to think of her being home alone. Such a softie!! Haha!

On Saturday night we went for dinner and a movie – we went to Vapiano’s again (the newly opened restaurant in the shopping centre). It’s only been opened three weeks and already I’ve been three times and Adrian’s been twice!! I’ve started my healthy eating plan and opted for the salad that night so I could have popcorn during the movie. I figure corn is pretty healthy right, even if it is covered in butter and salt! And even if you have a whole large box to yourself ;)

On Sunday we indulged in a massage which was really nice, painful but nice. The massages they give over here aren’t gentle – more like a sports massage but you do feel good after. And the outfits are pretty cool! J

I’ve also found a beauty salon that honestly does the best facials. I’m so happy I found it and the prices over here are ridiculously cheap. I’m talking $30AUD for a one and a half hour facial that includes everything you could ever think would be included in a facial. I don’t understand how they can be such a bargain but the beauty industry over here is great like that – everything is WAY cheaper than Australia and it’s all of such great quality too. Definitely going again soon J

Rafting and Waterfalls!

Life has been pretty full the last couple of weeks. We’ve done lots of exploring, catching up with friends and a bit of wedding planning too J

Last weekend we went for a nice drive around the island and stopped off at Mundong Waterfall. The photo’s we’d seen of it looked really pretty and well worth the hike. Of course when we went to visit the water was a slow trickle and Adrian thought if we’d walked this far we might as well keep exploring and see if there’s anything else worthwhile viewing while we were there. Being the outdoorsy person that I am (ha!) I was super excited by his suggestion, and even more so when he preceded to walk up a hidden trail that no one else dared to go. We encountered mosquitoes, giant ants, flying black bugs, crawling black bugs, dragonflys that seemed like they were aiming to knock you out by the force they would fly into your head and lots of other scary noises in the bushes! Adrian hiked on ahead and I did my best to keep up, not daring to get left too far behind for fear of what else could be hiding in the bushes. The walk back down the mountain was a struggle and I’m not sure if my legs were shaking more from exhaustion or fear of all the bugs! J

This weekend our dare-devil spirits came out again and we joined a group of Adrian’s workmates for an afternoon of white water rafting. I was a bit nervous at first as the website promoting it said the rapids were really fast – luckily it hadn’t rained in the weeks coming up to our visit and the current was nice and cruisy. There were a few spots where I might’ve let out a little squeal but overall it was a really fun experience and one I wouldn’t mind doing again. The only worrying thing was that our guide only knew two words of English – thank you and photo. Luckily we had a Korean colleague in our raft and he spoke fluent English and could translate all the safety tips and directions.

That night some of Adrian’s friends came down from Ulsan (3 hours away) and we all went out for dinner. It was really nice to catch up with them and have a good chat about life over here as opposed to life back home. It still astounds us how there is literally no crime over here at all and every time we look a news website from home it appears all we see is violence –murders, bashings, robbery so forth. Of course it’s not as developed as Australia but in a way I think that just adds to its charm. The mentality over here is more family orientated than about oneself like it is back home. Generally three generations live under one roof – something I just couldn’t imagine happening in Australia. As soon as you’re old enough you’re out of home and never return. Here it’s nice to see that the elderly are not sitting at home alone and that they’re surrounded by grandkids, it’s actually their ‘job’ (for want of a better word) to look after the kids while the parents work. I might have a case of rose-coloured glasses at the moment but I actually think that’s quite nice.
